Question 41
Five bells begin to toll together and toll respectively at intervals of 6, 5, 7, 10 and 12 seconds. How many times will they toll together in one hour excluding the one at the start ?

A
7 times
B
8 times
C
9 times
D
11 times
Correct Answer: Option B

L.C.M. of 6, 5, 7, 10 and 12 is 420.

So, the bells will toll together after every 420 seconds i.e. 7 minutes.

Now, 7 x 8 = 56 and 7 x 9 = 63.

Thus, in 1-hour (or 60 minutes), the bells will toll together 8 times, excluding the one at the start.

Question 42
A bus starts from city X. The number of women in the bus is half of the number of men. In city Y, 10 men leave the bus and five women enter. Now, number of men and women is equal. In the beginning, how many passengers entered the bus ?

A
15
B
30
C
36
D
45
Correct Answer: Option D

Originally, let number of women = x. Then, number of men = 2x.

So, in city Y, we have : (2x - 10) = (x + 5) or x - 15.

Therefore Total number of passengers in the beginning = (x + 2x) = 3x = 45.

Question 43
A man has a certain number of small boxes to pack into parcels. If he packs 3, 4, 5 or 6 in a parcel, he is left with one over; if he packs 7 in a parcel, none is left over. What is the number of boxes, he may have to pack?

A
106
B
301
C
309
D
400
Correct Answer: Option B

Clearly, the required number would be such that it leaves a remainder of 1 when divided by 3, 4, 5, or 6 and no remainder when divided by 7.

Thus, the number must be of the form (L.C.M of 3, 4, 5, 6) x + 1 i.e., (60x + 1 ) and a multiple of 7.

Clearly, for x = 5, the number is a multiple of 7. So the number is 301.

Question 44
In a note collection, there is one new ₹2000 note for every three old ₹500 notes. 10 more new ₹2000 notes are added to the collection and the ratio of new ₹2000 notes to old ₹500 notes would be 1: 2. Based on the information, the total number of notes in the collection now becomes?

A
60
B
30
C
70
D
90
Correct Answer: Option D

Let 'x' be the number of new ₹2000 notes.

Given for one new 2000 note there are three old 500 notes.

=> 3x

Given 10 more new ₹2000 notes are added to the collection and the ratio of new ₹2000 notes to old ₹500 notes

=> x + 10 /3x = 1/2 => x = 20

Therefore, number of new ₹2000 notes => x+10 = 30.

Old ₹500 notes => 3x = 60.

Thus, the total number of notes in the collection => 30 + 60 = 90.

Question 45
A bird lover was asked how many birds he had in the basket. He replied that there were all parrots but six, all pigeons but six, and all koel but six. How many birds he had in the basket in all ?

A
8
B
18
C
9
D
10
Correct Answer: Option C

There were all parrots but six means that six birds were not parrots but only pigeons and koels.

Similarly, number of parrots + number of koels = 6 and number of parrots + number of pigeons = 6.

This is possible when there are 3 parrots, 3 pigeons and 3 koels i.e. 9 birds in all.

Question 46
A Child has 1200 five rupee coins. He wants to place them in such a way that the number of rows and the number of columns remains the same. What is the minimum number of coins that he needs more for this purpose?

A
125
B
96
C
35
D
25
Correct Answer: Option D

We know that, to be in the form that the number of rows and the number of columns to be equal the number should be a perfect square

Given number is 1200

The perfect number which is above and near to 1200 is 1225 which is 35 x 35.

The minimum number of coins he need is 25.

Question 47
If the positions of the first and the fifth digits of the number 14278359 are interchanged, similarly the positions of the second and the sixth digits are interchanged and so on, then which of the following will be the second digit from the right end after the rearrangement ?

A
5
B
2
C
7
D
4
Correct Answer: Option B

Given number is 14278359

As given 1st and 5th digits, 2nd & 6th, 3rd & 7th and 4th & 8th digits are to to be interchanged.

Therefore, the rearranged number is 83591427

Then, the second digit from the right end is 2.

Question 48
The sum of the interior angles of a polygon is twice the sum of its exterior angles. How many sides does the polygon have ?

A
6
B
4
C
5
D
7
Correct Answer: Option A

We know that

Sum of Interior angles of Polygon = 180( n - 2 )

Sum of Exterior angles of Polygon = 360

So 180( n - 2 ) = 2 x 360

Therefore, by solving we get n = 6 sides.

Question 49
If 'x' means '-', '÷' means '+', '-' means '÷' and '+' means 'x', then 24 - 4 ÷ 6 x 3 + 4 = ?

A
0
B
1
C
2
D
3
Correct Answer: Option A

From the given information in the question

24 ÷ 4 + 6 - 3 x 4

6 + 6 - 12 = 0

Question 50
A cow was standing on a bridge, 5m away from the middle of the bridge. A train was coming towards the bridge from the ends nearest to the cow. Seeing this cow ran towards the the train and managed to escape when the train was 2m away from bridge. If it had run in the opposite direction, it would hit by the train 2m before the end of the bridge. What is the length of the bridge in meters assuming the speed of the train is 4 times that of cow ?

A
22 mts
B
28 mts
C
32 mts
D
34 mts
Correct Answer: Option C

Let 'b' be the Length of bridge from cow to the near end of the bridge and 'a' be the distance of the train from the bridge.

'x' be speed of cow => '4x' speed of train

Then the total length of the bridge 2b + 10.

( a - 2 )/4x = b/x

=> a - 2 = 4b........(1)

Now if it had run in opposite direction

( a + 2b + 10 - 2 )/4x = ( b + 10 - 2 )/x

=> a - 2b = 24......(2)

Solving (1) and (2)

b = 11

Therefore length of the bridge is 2 x 11 + 10 = 32mts.
