Question 21
A certain number of two digits is three times the sum of its digits and if 45 be added to it, the digits are reversed. The number is :

A
23
B
27
C
32
D
72
Correct Answer: Option B

Let ten's digit be x and unit's digit be y.

Then, 10x + y = 3 (x + y)

⇒ 7x 2y = 0 -------- (i)

⇒ 10x + y + 45 = 10y + x

⇒ y x = 5 ------------- (ii)

Solving (i) and (ii), we get : x = 2 and y = 7.

∴ Required number = 27

Question 22
The product of two fraction is 14/15 and their quotient is 35/24. The grater fraction is :

A
4/5
B
7/6
C
7/4
D
7/3
Correct Answer: Option B

Let the two fraction be a and b.
Then, ab = 14/15 and a/b = 35/24.
ab/(a/b) = (14/15 x 24/35 )
<=> b2 = 16/25 <=> b = 4/5.

 ab = 14/15

⇒ a = (14/15 x 5/4) = 7/6

Since, a > b , so greater fraction is 7/6.

Question 23
In a pair of fractions, fraction A is twice the fraction B and the product of two fractions is 2/25 what is the value of fraction A ?

A
1/5
B
1/25
C
2/5
D
Data inadequate
Correct Answer: Option C

A = 2B B = A/2.

So, AB = 2/25 ⇒ A2 = 2/25

⇒ A2 = 4/25

⇒ A = 2/5.

Question 24
The denominator of a fraction is 3 more than the numerator. If the numerator as well as the denominator is increased by 4, the fraction becomes 4/5. what was the original fraction ?

A
8/11
B
5/8
C
10/13
D
7/10
Correct Answer: Option A

Let the numerator be x. Then, denominator = x + 3.

Now,  x + 4          = 4/5

       (x + 3) + 4

⇒  5(x + 4) = 4 (x + 7)

∴  The fraction is 8/11.
